6 Dancing

It’s okay to dance. Dance like nobody's watching, or if you prefer, dance like everyone is. You are free to dance. So turn up the music in the car, jam out in the bathroom, sing your heart out.  Something that a mentor of mine once said was that dancing is a lost part of our culture and I couldn’t agree more. Dancing used to be something that all the young folks would go out and do, it was something that brought people together and brought a smile to people's faces.

If you, like me, are not a dancer, I don’t think it matters. It matters that you showed up, it matters that you are trying. There are still dance halls out there, there are still opportunities to dance. So go out and find them, you never know whether or not you are going to find your people there. If you don’t feel like dancing right now, I get it.  But that doesn’t mean it is going to stay that way.

Dancing is, in my humble opinion, one of the purest expressions of human emotion with our bodies. Long before written language, we had our words, our music, and we as a species had dancing.  So, even if it is just in the living room, alone, with a pair of headphones, find a song to dance to. Find another space to take another step. Remind your mind, and your body that you are still alive, and that you can still move.

Dance the dance, and learn to love again.
