January 1 Love of God.
I put this first and foremost because a lot of things I am going to put in the following pages are going to be entirely dependent upon opinion or personal mood. I do include what I consider a lot of fundamental truths that are and will continue to be true. But I also recognize that a lot of what I say might depend on your life circumstances or what kind of person you are. But this doesn’t.
If you are trapped in a bad season or a bad period of time, sometimes even the taste of your favorite meal can lose its joy if you don’t feel like it. Maybe you have always hated the outdoors, and so me telling you to go for a hike isn’t helpful, maybe you’re allergic to bees, or maybe you have a strained relationship with your family. But among all that, what I will say, even when everything else changes. God never did. We know that the Bible says that “The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17, NIV). You are loved, you are important. Someone cares about you so deeply that they sing over you. Someone has loved you so deeply that they stepped in front of the bullet that should have killed you. Someone has loved you so deeply that you will never be able to understand how much that love has been poured over your life. That is love. That is what you should always remember. Your emotions are strong. His love is stronger.
