15 Music

There once was a composer, who lived many years ago who had been taught to write sheet music when she was a young girl. She grew up in a rural village in Ethiopia high up on the step. The local church had a piano where her grandmother taught her to play and the girl took to it like a fish does to water. At a very young age she began to play beautiful melodies for the church, and not long after began to compose new music. A local businessman was passing through the village when he heard her playing and stopped in his tracks, he was amazed when he realized what he was hearing.

Very quickly the girl was offered a place in the orchestra in the city, where she was finally able to fully express her love for music through her composing and conducting. She played there and worked there for many years until she grew into a young woman. She was given the opportunity to travel to Canada so she could conduct for a major orchestra. She assumed it would be difficult to translate her music into a culture and language so different from their own.  But she sent ahead the scores she had written in a letter to the orchestra in Canada. A new language she had never learned to speak herself. So she said goodbye to her family and flew across the world. But when walked into the concert hall, she heard them playing her music that she had sent by mail just the week before. Because the thing about music is that it is the only universal language we have. Music notes do not know a culture, and melody knows how to speak to the heart.
