20 Fishing

I personally do not go fishing a lot, but I know someone who cares about fishing a lot. So much so that it is their deepest passion in life. I asked him what I should write for this section of the book, this was part of his response.

“There is so much more to fishing than just a fish, every cast can bring you joy or heartbreak, you’ll never know till you make it. Fishing topwater is the most thrilling thing I have ever done in my life, it wasn't a roller coaster it wasn't something super dangerous, it was seeing a fish chase and decide to hit a whopper plopper, there is nothing quite like it. Or even the mystery of throwing a subsurface bait, the mystery of not knowing if a fish is gonna bite is enthralling. Not knowing if you're gonna catch a fish within the first five minutes of the day or as the last rays of sun leave the trees. You can never truly know what a day of fishing is gonna bring and that is the appeal of fishing to me.

I am unsure of what this means or the implications that it has on the wider world. It's truly a mystery that is beyond my mere human comprehension. I don’t think I will ever be fully aware of how much this truly matters to him. But maybe you understand better than I do how exciting fishing can be, and how much joy it can bring you.
